Have you ever jumped on Pinterest for a simple dinner idea only to have tons of similar versions of the same recipe to come up? Who’s got the time to read through all of them to decide which to make? Nobody!

We’ve been there, so when it came to snow recipes, we decided to try a few and see which one was worth the hype.

homemade snow

Recipe #1 : Baking Soda & Conditioner

Ingredients:

1/4 Cup Conditioner

1 Cup Baking Soda

Directions:

1. Combine conditioner & baking soda in a bowl. Once well mixed, dump it into a cookie sheet and start playing!

Pros:

  • Nice texture
  • Felt cold
  • Molded easily into shapes but could also break apart like snow should
  • Looked the most like snow
  • Smelled nice (coconut conditioner)
  • After leaving out most of the day, this snow felt almost exactly the same as it did freshly made.

Cons:

  • None

Recipe #2 : Instant Pudding & Refined Coconut Oil

Ingredients:

1 – 3.4 oz box of Instant Pudding (We used vanilla.)

2 Tbsp. Refined Coconut Oil

Directions:

1. Combine pudding mix & coconut oil in a bowl. (Get right in there with your hands to mix it!) Once well mixed, dump it into a cookie sheet and start playing!

Pros:

  • Decent texture
  • Edible (if you eat it, kind of turns into a sticky pudding in your mouth. Very weird sensation, but worth the try)
  • Molds very well but also breaks apart as snow should
  • After leaving out most of the day, the snowman had hardened a ton. But you could break it back down into smaller pieces and it would still mold back together, just slightly drier.

Cons:

  • Had a slightly grainy feel to it
  • Was more of a pinkish color

Recipe #3 : Lotion & Cornstarch

Ingredients:

3 to 3 ½ Tbsp. Lotion

½ Cup Cornstarch

Directions:

1. Combine lotion and cornstarch in a bowl. Once well mixed, dump it into a cookie sheet and start playing!

Pros:

• Molded easily into shapes

Cons:

  • Had a yellow tinge to it
  • The texture was weird. I didn’t like it.
  • After leaving out for most of the day, it solidified more into a “cloud dough.” I liked that version of it a lot better.
  • Smelled bad

Now there are many recipes out there for homemade snow but after testing multiple recipes, we decided these were the top three. However, since there can only be one winner. We decided the Baking Soda & Conditioner recipe was at the top of the charts! It is the most similar to real snow in texture and looks. Not only that but it stays fresh for a lot longer than most of the recipes. Try them all out and see if you agree with us or if there is another winner in your eyes!
